notes: The last eight photographs (at the bottom of the page) show an additional Micrat-200 camera and lens that has been separated from the rest of the unit (this is often done by camera dealers when they want to sell just the camera as a "spy" camera). It is an earlier version (from the RA-1 / 1976-1985) with a crinkeled black paint surface and Industar lens # 8214.
According to Nathan Dayton, the S-64s were developed for use at all border crossings. The Soviets did not have common copiers so they photographed all passports and other documents. Princelle says that this reproduction outfit was originally ordered from KMZ (but possibly produced at BeLOMO) by the KGB, and then later used by other services.
I was told that this particular S-64 unit, in its gray wooden box, was used at the Soviet Navy base on the Black Sea, near Donetsk, and was sold as surplus, along with two other units. It is complete with all of its accessories; light bulbs, filters, fuses, electrical cords and adapters, extra cassettes, a foot switch, ground glass, cable release, instruction book, and even a piece of test film and a negative magnifier with the Kazan Zavod prism logo on it! "Elochka" or "Iolochka" translates to "Fur Tree" or "Christmas Tree".
